Office Yoga Introductory Exercises

TWIST

STEP BY STEP · Balance equal weight on seat bones · Feet flat under knees · Activate banda lock · Back straight, shoulders over hips · Cross right leg over left, and put left hand on right knee · Right hand reaches behind, lengthen spine, twist to the right moving the body then letting head follow · Left elbow straight · Twist tall, lengthen spine

BENEFITS · Increases range of motion and improves flexibility · Eases pain in back and shoulders · Flattens abdomen · Narrows waistline · Reduces stress 

THYROID THRILL

STEP BY STEP · Balance on seat bones, feet flat, heels under knees. Back straight· Interlace fingers behind head at base of skull · Activate banda lock and relax jaw · Squeeze elbows together and focus on thyroid gland · Breathe deeply and stretch neck up on the exhalations · Create slight resistance between hand and head to work thyroid

BENEFITS · Helps to activate thyroid · Balances emotions with thyroid hormones · Improves metabolism 

FROG LEGS

STEP BY STEP · Open knees wide, wiggle toes and stretch feet· Inhale and activate banda lock · Exhale and push bum back and slide hands down shins until belly is parallel to the floor. Rest hands on feet. · Elbows and back are straight · Inhale deeply, exhale and stretch neck forward in line with spine · Soften gaze

BENEFITS · Increases flexibility of the spine· Invigorates· Oxygenates the brain

 

FACE THE FEET

STEP BY STEP · Remove shoes, straighten legs and flex feet back · Active banda lock and stretch chest towards toes · Don't overstretch, hold back of feet or wherever you can (knees, thighs ..) · Inhale and exhale fully· Stretch breastbone towards feet and lengthen neck · Soften gaze and love your feet!

BENEFITS · Increases flexibility· Strengthens immune system
