Course overview
This module will cover theory and practice of the western and yogic aspects of yoga and anxiety and deep relaxation combining nlp psychotherapy with yoga.
Recent research that I conducted in Staffordshire has shown that 80 per cent of people aren’t getting enough relaxation, with nearly 40 per cent of those admitting that they get much too little relaxation. This is further exacerbated with the back drop of nearly 1 in 3 people in Staffordshire having visited their GP with anxiety and/ or depression (EWISS had over 4000 referrals for anxiety/depression last year alone!).
This course is intended to help people relieve the symptoms of anxiety and learn techniques of restorative yoga to relax on a deep level. It will help people feel more energized and balanced, learn how to gain control over their emotions and calm their mind. It will help them remove mental problems, stop letting anxiety get in the way of their life. The course will offer people an opportunity to gain greater knowledge and understanding of anxiety from both a western and yogic perspective.
The course also teaches an overview of the art and science of teaching restorative yoga. Aspects of physiology, neuroscience, and the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of deep relaxation will be taught. We will practice asanas, pranayamas, mantra and meditations that can help with anxiety and worry with the aim of brining balance, harmony, alignment and wholeness into our lives.
Aims of the Module
The Module has the following aims:
- To provide students/teachers with a clear understanding of the western (psychotherapy) and yogic view of anxiety and relaxation
- To enable students to improve their breathing to calm the mind and move towards emotional and physiological coherence, feel the effect of postures and breathing on mental state.
- To increase balance of the nervous system and improve the felt sense of connection to one’s somatic mind, whilst improving the thinking processes and resources of the cognitive mind

About Embodied Living Therapy
Embodied Living therapy uses neuro-linguistic psychotherapy as a main modality complemented with transformational coaching , hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, yoga therapy, breath re-training, emotional freedom techniques and biofeedback work. Neuro-linguistic psychotherapy (NLPt) goes much deeper than CBT and neurolinguistic programming (NLP), in that it looks for the way the client has 'constructed' their experience of the world and, by exploring 'how' people think, identifying successful outcomes and then then applying these successful actions or beliefs in ways which work.
The therapy can typically be brief and short-term (6 to 10 hours), Sue aims to quickly get to the source of the problem.
The initial 60 minute Intake Session provides an initial assessment, giving an indication of the duration of the therapy, and is free of charge. The work can be carried out in the warm, comfortable therapy room at St Albans House or on client premises.
